Geraldton Guardian

A motorist was clocked at nearly 150km/h with two children in his car on Brand Highway this week.

The Pilbara man, aged in his mid to late 40s, was pulled over about 3.30pm south of Dongara, after he was caught travelling at 148km/h in a 110km zone.

He was fined $800 and given six demerit points.

He was one of up to between 15 and 18 speeding motorists caught by one group of officers from Mid West Gascoyne Traffic in a single shift on Monday.

Another case, almost as bad, was a 31-year-old Two Rocks woman, who was clocked at 146km/h at South Greenough about 2.45pm.

She was also fined $800 and given six demerit points.

On dusk, a 55-year-old Perth man was caught travelling at 133km/h at Bonniefield, north of Dongara.

He was fined $400 and given three demerit points.

Senior Constable Brent Reid said the take home message for drivers was to take care behind the wheel.

“Especially on regional roads, drivers get tired and that’s when things come unstuck,” he said.
