A road train driver is expected to face charges after allegedly causing a car accident this morning when he lost his trailer attempting a U-turn on Edward Road.

Mid West Gascoyne District traffic coordinator acting Sgt Keith Burrows said the driver made the “dangerous” turning attempt after realising he was on a section of the road he did not have approval to drive on.

“The incident occurred just after 6am during the hours of darkness,” he said.

“The driver attempted to turn around on Edward Road, causing the rear trailer to detach and block the road.”

Unable to see the obstruction, a male driver then crashed into the side of the trailer. Acting Sgt Burrows said the man was “uninjured but quite shaken” from the accident.

He said no charges have been preferred against the truck driver yet, but expected charges would be laid for attempting the dangerous U-turn and travelling off the approved route.

“It’s an unfortunate incident that could have been avoided if the driver had stuck to his planned route,” he said.
