East Fremantle Football Club on hunt for new WAFL prospects with a Mid West talent search

The East Fremantle Football Club is on the hunt for local prospects as they hold a talent search in Geraldton on Saturday, November 18. With East Freo being so closely linked to football in the Mid West, the club is coming to Geraldton on the look out for potential WAFL players. East Fremantle WAFLW operations manager Tessa Daly said the day would help the club find out if there were any players that were currently not on their radar. “What we’re doing is just going out to have a little bit of a feel and see who’s out there, if there’s any talent that we are missing at the moment and get them involved in 2024,” she said. While there have previously been similar scouting days done for female footballers in Geraldton, this one is opened up to men as well. “Previously they’ve done a couple of the female talent search days and this year we thought we’d put it out a little wider as well to some of the males,” Daly said. “To involve them in case there’s some of the males that we are currently missing from our Shark Pack.” The Shark Pack program works with the Mid West Academy of Sports to help get local footballers into the academy and the WAFL system. While there are a few names on East Freo’s radar, they have widened the age range from 14-25, to see if any older players could make an impact. “There’s a fair few names that are quite well known in the region that hopefully we can get through our program and potentially even getting league games down here as well,” Daly said. “So that’s why we have opened it up, the age range to that 25 bracket, to try and see that bit older, more mature footballers that may be out there that can help and support those younger ones.” With the Mid West being the recruiting zone for East Freo, many of the best players have gone through the Sharks and Daly said it has been great to see their development. “It’s fantastic, it’s great to see a lot more start coming through, we’ve had a few that have been fortunate to get drafted as well . . . the likes of Julia Teakle and Brynn Teakle,” she said. “There’s a lot of people that started their football careers in the Great Northern Football League, really excited to see if we can progress that a bit more.” The talent search day takes place at the Recreation Ground on Saturday from 1.30pm.
