The new Durlacher Street roundabout works had their first mishap on Wednesday with a burst gasline.

A passer by said it was a caused by a tree lopping accident.

“Part of the tree impacted the gas line when it fell on the QEII Centre side of the road,” he said.

City of Greater Geraldton acting CEO Paul Radalj said the low pressure gas service line burst near the Durlacher and Maitland St roundabout works at around 10.45am.

“The area surrounding the works was closed off by Police and some businesses in the immediate area were evacuated for safety precautions,” he said.

“The service line was repaired around 12.15pm by representatives from ATCO gas.”

Moving Government utilities such as gas, power, water and NBN infrastructure to make way for the roundabout is expected to cost the City $350,000.
