Fatal crash on Chapman Valley Road involving cement truck and tractor

A life has been lost after a truck and tractor collided north-east of Geraldton early on Thursday. Police say about 5.20am a tractor towing a seeder and storage unit and a cement truck collided near Balla-Whelarra Road and Chapman Valley Road in Rockwell, more than 60km from Geraldton. The truck driver, a 50 year old man died at the scene. Major Crash investigators have attended the scene and police have appealed for anyone who may have seen the crash or have dash cam footage of the incident to contact Geraldton Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Police said the 51-year-old man driving the tractor and a 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in the truck were taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital for treatment. Between 2016 and 2020, statistics show 357 people were killed or seriously injured on Mid West-Gascoyne roads. Last year, nine people were killed on roads in the region. So far in 2022, 44 people have been killed in WA road crashes, including 30 in regional WA. This compares to 55 lives lost across WA at the same stage last year.
