Federal Budget slashes price of fuel in half lowering the cost of living in Geraldton for six months

Geraldton petrol prices are starting to slightly dip — with some dropping to below $2 a litre — after the Federal Government announced its cut to fuel excise in this week’s Budget. The cost of petrol across WA has shot past the 200¢ a litre mark, but motorists will soon see further reductions after the Morrison Government cut the fuel excise in half — or 22¢ — for the next six months to ease cost of living pressures. According to FuelWatch, some Geraldton retailers were offering lower prices, including the cheapest unleaded petrol at Coles Express Tarcoola at 195.9¢. On March 21, petrol prices in Geraldton were an average of 211.7¢ a litre. The six-month reduction to the fuel excise would start to “flow through to the bowser over the next two weeks”, according to federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg. It would save a family with two cars who fill up once a week “around $30 a week” or $700 across the six months, he said.
