Federal Government provides more than $160,000 to maintain safety standards at Geraldton Airport

The City of Greater Geraldton will receive $168,327 from the Federal Government for the maintenance of Geraldton Airport. The grant is part of $27.9 million provided to regional governments by the Commonwealth for the latest round of the Regional Airports Program. The money will be used to resurface and reseal one of Geraldton Airport’s runways, with the project is expected to go out for tender later this year and work commencing in early 2024. City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn thanked the Federal Government for their support. “These works are vital in maintaining the airport’s current safety and accessibility standards as well as being a landing option for emergency services, tourism, charter and recreational flights,” he said. Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Catherine King said regional airports played an important role in communities across Australia. “The Regional Airports Program delivers significant benefits for regional aviation and communities, including increasing safety for aircraft, operators and passengers,” she said. “These projects are also an investment in the improved delivery of goods and services, including healthcare and passenger air services.”
