Fire crews have extinguished a blaze that flared in scrubland near homes in Geraldton this afternoon.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the fire was reported by a householder in Intombi Rise, Wandina, about 3pm and was brought under control by two career and two volunteer fire crews within an hour.

She said three crews were still at the scene mopping up.

The cause and extent of the blaze are not known.
