Fire near Dongara now contained

Firefighters are using a bulldozer to strengthen containment lines as a bushfire continues to burn south of Midlands Road, on the eastern side of Brand Highway.

The fire is now contained with local Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service Bush and Fire Service firefighters attending.

Main Roads WA re-opened Brand Highway and Midlands Road to traffic yesterday.

However the bushfire advice is in place for people travelling on Midlands Road or near Brand Highway between Midlands Road and Kailis Drive/Pye Road in Yadarino near Dongara.

Main Roads is asking drivers to be careful when driving through the area and watch for fire and smoke.

The fire started near the intersection of Brand Highway and Ellery Road on Tuesday.

It was first reported at 12.15pm and 200ha has been burnt.
