Firefighters battling Rangeway bushfire

UPDATE: Geraldton firefighters have contained a bushfire burning on Highbury Street, Rangeway, near John Willcock College.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said there had been a report of a “large fire” and “lots of smoke” made about 10.38am.

She said crews from Geraldton Fire and Rescue Service, Waggrakine Bushfire Brigade, and Geraldton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

No roads have been closed.

DFES is advising nearby residents and motorists to keep their windows closed because of heavy smoke.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear. Firefighters remain at the scene.
