Children with disabilities from Waggrakine Primary School recently joined fishermen Chris Wilson and Peter Stratford.

Mr Wilson and Mr Stratford are local co-ordinators of Fishability, a group which arranges fishing activities for disabled people and provides special equipment for those who struggle with standard fishing gear.

Teacher Lauren Read said her students thoroughly enjoyed catching fish.

“At Waggrakine, we have double the State average of students with autism at school, so we see this as a fantastic opportunity,” Ms Read said.

“The kids have fun.

“Most of them caught fish.

“We’ve had a lot of wrasse and blowies.”

Fishability operates on the last Thursday of every month at the boardwalk by the Museum of Geraldton.
