Five teenagers arrested and will face court after stealing an unlocked motor vehicle in Beresford

Police say a group of teenagers “got lucky” over the weekend when they allegedly stole a car that that was left unlocked with a spare key inside. The vehicle was parked on a Beresford verge and was allegedly taken for a joy ride by the teenagers about 7.30pm on Saturday. Police located the car on Abraham Street in Karloo about 11.30pm. Geraldton police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said police activated their lights and sirens, and the stolen car struck a rock and punctured one of the tyres, which caused it to stop. He alleged the five accused exited the car and fled on foot towards the bushland on the eastern side of Abraham Street. “There was a police search conducted over the next 30 minutes, during that search which involved a number of police resources, five offenders were apprehended,” Sen. Sgt Martin said. The five alleged offenders, both male and female aged 16 and 17, were arrested, bailed and due to face court on Tuesday, May 24.
