After a successful food and nutrient education program for people with disability in Perth, Foodbank Geraldton will deliver the scheme in the Mid West region.

The Healthy Food for All Abilities program will run in Geraldton for three days on November 29, December 1 and 6, to help people with disability build confidence and valuable life skills.

Participants will cook and share meals together and discover ways to find confidence picking healthy food options in a communicative, culinary environment.

More than 160 people with disability, support workers and family members attended the city sessions, and now Foodbank WA is ready to take to regional towns including Bunbury and Geraldton, with plans to extend sessions to the Wheatbelt and the Goldfields.

Disability Services Minister Don Punch said living regionally should not hinder access to the program, and congratulated Foodbank WA on the initiative.

“The Innovation Fund was set up to build the capacity of people with disability, their families, and their community — regardless of their location — and the Healthy Food for All Abilities program is a great example of that,” he said.

“Most importantly, the innovation fund was set up to find innovative ways to enable people with disability to be engaged and empowered, and to live as they choose.”

The program is funded through the innovation fund A Western Australia for Everyone: State Disability Strategy 2020-2030.
