Four-year-old Ask An Angel wins third race in three starts at Geraldton Turf Club for trainer Ray Burns

Geraldton trainer Ray Burns’ golden girl just keeps winning. Ask An Angel stepped up on Friday at Geraldton Turf Club to take out race six over 1100m. The result, with jockey Victoria Corver aboard, followed a maiden win for the four-year-old earlier in March and a trial win in February for three firsts in three outings. Burns said he was pleasantly surprised by the results. “She’s come from maiden company up into the next company and won, so I’m pleased,” he said. “I’m going give her a nice few days off and take her down to the beach for a week and a half. She lives at the beach, she swims every day.” As well as swimming at Pages Beach, Ask An Angel, the only horse he had in work, enjoyed a beach gallop at Southgates, he said. He said the quick rise up in class had caused him a slight headache, although the good kind as he would now have to rethink plans for Geraldton Cup day. “I had a race planned out but she’s out of that company now, so I’ve got to find another race for her,” he said. Fortune smiled on local trainers in most of the other races. Exquisite Star took out race two for Willie Parker with Peter Knuckey aboard before Kayla Cross piloted Midnight Black to the win in race three for Kylie Craig. Stocktaka won race four for Gingin-based Ashley Maley with Taj Dyson aboard. The Northampton Cup will run at the turf club on March 27. The Geraldton Cup will run on April 10 and will be followed by a race day on Easter Saturday.
