The Fremantle to Geraldton ocean yacht race has beaten “internal challenges” from yachting officials to sail on.

The 50th race will be held next weekend but Yachting WA mooted a Fremantle to Albany race.

“Let’s just say there was change in the wind but we (Geraldton and South of Perth) didn’t want it. And thanks to Albany, who weren’t keen on hosting it,” Geraldton Yacht Club commodore John Gummery said.

Twenty yachts will start this coming weekend.
