Fuel prices decline in Geraldton although not as rapidly as some Perth petrol stations

Geraldton motorists are breathing slightly easier in recent days as the price of petrol drops after the Federal Government cut fuel excise in half temporarily. Since the Commonwealth announced the six-month excise cut in the 2022-23 Budget in a bid to help with cost of living pressures, Geraldton fuel prices have fallen well under $2 a litre for unleaded. But elsewhere in WA, prices have dropped even further. The Government reduced the fuel excise cost in half from 44.2¢ per litre to 22.1¢ per litre, a change which is now making its way to the bowser. On March 10, the price of fuel in Perth reached a high of $2.12 per litre, whereas Geraldton’s most expensive bowser at that time was charging 184.9¢ per litre. On March 21 before the Budget was announced, petrol prices in Geraldton were at a high of 211.7¢ per litre. After Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced the fuel excise cut, the price of fuel in Geraldton went down to as low as 186.9¢ per litre on April 2. On Thurs April 7, the lowest fuel on offer was 182.9¢ per litre while the average was 191.9¢. However, bowsers in Perth were as low as 153.9¢ per litre on Thursday. FuelWatch statistics show five out of eight regional WA fuel prices fell, while Geraldton’s stayed the same on Thursday. Two days prior, FuelWatch showed Geraldton was the only regional city in WA that had not seen a reduction that day.
