Geraldton Aboriginal arts and culture festival Iwarra Wilungga concludes festival for 2024

Iwarra Wilungga 2024 wrapped up in style over the weekend, with a grand finale to remember at Queens Park Theatre for the festival celebrating Aboriginal arts and culture. The musical stylings of WA acts Fred Ryan Band, and Bradley Hall Band were heard throughout the theatre, before Anangu and Torres Strait Islander performer Miiesha brought it home at Saturday’s main event. Activities including boomerang painting and basket weaving were on offer for kids and adults alike, while local artists sold some of their designs at market stalls on the day. Geraldton MP Lara Dalton told those at the festival the community support had been felt. “This festival is fabulous, it absolutely presents an inclusive, family friendly atmosphere to celebrate the oldest living culture in the world through art, music, and dance,” she said. “This year’s expanded format is so varied . . . it’s good to see the community support the exhibitions and the workshops. “Congratulations to all involved to bringing this vibrant and unmissable display into the heart of our city.” The expanded festival saw the opening of a photo exhibition at the Geraldton Museum, poetry displays by Kija Bardi woman Nola Gregory at the Geraldton Library, and workshops at Rocks Laneway in the weeks leading up to the finale.
