The City of Greater Geraldton has continued to close various services and restrict others due to the global COVID-19 virus outbreak.

Chief executive Ross McKim said the City was monitoring the rapidly changing situation closely and making necessary changes as needed.

In addition to the already implemented changes to facilities and programming, the Geraldton Regional Library and Mullewa Public Library will be closed from tomorrow.

A City spokeswoman said community members may visit the library’s website for online resources and services.

“Loan periods on library items will be extended for an additional four weeks and an amnesty on library fines will apply,” she said.

“Returns in Geraldton can be placed in the returns box located at the Chapman Road entrance between the hours 9am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

“A returns box will also be available at the Mullewa District Office.”

The spokeswoman said home pool inspections have been suspended but she urged community members to be ever-vigilant, especially with children around swimming pools.

Customer service at the civic centre and Mullewa District Office remain open but the City prefers people to contact them via phone or email and use online services where possible.

“If visitation to a City facility is necessary, please exercise social distancing,” she said.

“Sanitisation stations and social distancing parameters have been put in place.”

A freeze has also been put on Community Grants.

The Geraldton Airport also remains open but passengers are advised to contact airlines for information of any flight changes.

Ongoing announcements regarding City programs, shows and events will be released on the City’s website and social media platforms.

The Department of Health are the lead agency for the COVID-19 situation and people are advised to visit their website as a true and accurate source of information.
