Geraldton Aquarena’s outdoor pool on track to be open again by September after $2 million repairs

Protracted upgrade works to Geraldton Aquarena’s outdoor pool passed a key milestone recently, with tests confirming it is structurally sound. The testing has been completed and the 50m outdoor pool is on track to be open by summer. The project stalled in early 2022 when it was damaged after stormwater entered the open excavations around the newly repaired pool shell. This caused the base of the pool to float and then sink when the water subsided, leading to cracking in the pool floor. Council voted in December last year to provide $2 million for the repairs, by demolishing the old pool floor slab and constructing a new one. Repairs have been ongoing since then and recently, hydrostatic testing was completed at the pool to see if it is structurally sound. City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said that the pool was on track to be done before summer with tilers currently working on it. “We’re pleased to confirm the Geraldton Aquarena’s outdoor pool is on target to be reopened this September,” he said. “Tiling works are currently a focus and will be finished in the next few weeks pending weather. “We’re excited for the community to be able to enjoy this great community asset once again and thank everyone for their understanding.”
