A Geraldton-based artist has returned home and is bringing her Secret Backyard Show to life, with a few local acts to take to the stage.

Alexia Parenzee has performed across the State with her band in festivals in Perth and regional WA.

Now back in Geraldton, she is excited to bring another performance to the Mid West.

“It’s good for your sense of wellbeing when you are connected with your community, and performing in your community is part of that connection,” she said.

“It helps you feel like you belong, and people really get around you. It’s such a massive support network.

“We take it pretty seriously to continue performing at home because it’s like a touchpoint for us.”

Parenzee’s move to Geraldton about 10 years ago sparked a change for her career.

She wanted to become a musician not long after moving to the area, having started out performing at The Provincial before forming a cover band.

Following a break in 2018 and 2019 when she had her children, she got an opportunity with WA Music’s Sounds of the Mid West, which kickstarted her career.

Since then, she and her band have gone on to feature on radio stations triple j and RTRFM, and have performed at Perth Festival, Beats in the Bay in Denham, and Nannup Music Festival, as well as releasing an EP earlier this year.

Parenzee said the Secret Backyard Show was a way for families to throw down a picnic rug and enjoy scenic views and live music.

“It’s just a fun way to put on our own show with people who really like our music and just want to be part of a beautiful vibe,” she said.

“Adding some diversity to the local music scene was really important for us.”

The shows in the past have taken place in a scenic space, generally in someone’s paddock or farm, with the organisers providing the music and the artists.

This show will feature Parenzee’s band, UK-turned-Geraldton artist Jessica Swift, local high school band Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Perth performer Romy B.

The location of the event will be revealed on the morning of the show on Saturday October 26.

Tickets are available online through Humanitix.
