Geraldton Board Riders combine for team competition and place just outside top three

A sport primed for individuals saw the finest from the Geraldton Board Riders work together in the team surfing competition. Held at Trigg Beach in Perth, the competition saw clubs from across WA competing together in the Hyundai Australia Boardriders Battle Series 12 opener. Featuring six board riders club from across the State, they went head-to-head on September 15 with hometown pride on display. The Geraldton squad impressed on the day and featured local stand outs in Mac Carter, Edel Rodden, Jake Hagan, Cruz McDonald and Jake Molly. The squad combined for a total score of 21.50 on the day, which saw them finish just outside of a podium finish at fourth place. They placed just behind the Margaret River Boardriders club who took out a bronze finish with their score of 21.80. The top teams qualify to the grand final that will be held in Queensland which will feature the best talent from the battle series from over Australia. Geraldton Boardriders club representative Matt Morris said they still have eyes of the grand prize. “We’ll definitely be applying for a wildcard for the Grand Final,” he said. “We’ve travelled the furthest to be here and we were happy with our performance today.” Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks said that the battle series brings the team spirit into a solo sport. “Surfing is usually an individual sport, but the Hyundai ABB brings out a team spirit that’s incredibly special,” he said. Yallingup Boadriders took out the win for a third year in a row, top scoring at 30.63.
