Geraldton Buccaneers duo Johny Narkle and Bob Griechen have been recognised by the NBL1 West, after being named in representative sides in 2024.

Narkle, despite missing 10 games this season due to a broken bone in his arm, was named in the all-defensive team of the year.

The 22-year-old is averaging 21 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

Coach Dayle Joseph says last year’s finals MVP could hold his own on an NBL side, should the opportunity present itself.

“He brought it to another level from last year, and he’s still got a couple of things he needs to improve on a little bit to get to that next level,” he said.

“He’s certainly very close and we’d love to see him get an opportunity on an NBL team at some point, whether that’s next year or the year after.

“What he brings to our team is a lot of versatility, which makes it a good thing for our team.”

Meanwhile, Griechen was named in the all-youth team of the year for the league.

The 18-year-old averages eight points, 2.6 rebounds, and one steal per game.

Joseph said Griechen was an asset to the Buccaneers’ bench.

“Bob’s probably one of those players that would probably go and play 20-plus minutes in other teams,” he said.

“With our full team together, it’s a bit hard to give him that full 20 minutes time he probably deserves.

“It’s nice to have up our sleeve, coming into finals and having a player of Bob’s ability to be able to throw in at any given time.”
