Geraldton City Band set to host schools from Geraldton, Morawa in Bands Spectacular at Queens Park Theatre
Geraldton is set to become a hub for several Mid West performers when the Bands Spectacular returns to Queens Park Theatre this weekend.
The event, hosted by Geraldton City Band, brings in several brass and concert bands from schools in Geraldton and Morawa to perform on stage.
Administration director Mary Van De Wyngaard said it was an opportunity for schools to showcase their talents.
“This is a great chance for students to perform for their families and friends to show them how they are progressing with their chosen instrument in a band setting,” she said.
“This concert is quite often the very first time some of the students in the training band have ever been on a stage.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for all the players to see adult performers in the Geraldton City Band performing more difficult pieces — something they may want to strive for as they progress through high school and beyond.”
This year’s performance from the city band will have a twist.
It is set to feature some musicians performing off stage from the box seats, 15-year-old Elyssa Lang performing a well-known classic, and a piece with 175 musicians performing at the same time.
More than six decades of music will be performed, with music from the 1960s all the way to modern hits.
Only a few tickets remain for the show on Saturday, October 26, which can be purchased through the QPT website.
