Two Mid West community organisations have been approved funding to support their efforts to boost tourism into the region. Mullewa Community Resource Centre and Greenough Museum and Gardens Community Organisation will receive cash from the City of Greater Geraldton for the next three years as part of the local government’s recurrent funding program. The MCRC had requested $25,000 each year to support Outback Bloom, Mullewa’s annual wildflower festival. The council on Tuesday agreed to allocate $25,000 for the event in the City’s 2022-23 budget, but $20,000 and $15,000 would be spent on the festival the following two years. The cash will be used to support marketing activities, marquee hire , and accommodation costs associated with the event. In-kind support for the waiver of the Mullewa Town Hall venue charges during the event was also approved. To help cover operational expenditure and the cost of museum curation services, the GMGCO asked the council to chip in $15,000 per year until 2024-25.
