Geraldton councillor claims upper house seat

Geraldton councillor Laurie Graham has claimed a seat in the upper house Agricultural Region.

He will join fellow Labor member Darren West in the six-seat electorate.

Vote counting is still under way but Cr Graham claimed victory today.

The City of Greater Geraldton council will decide next week whether to hold an extraordinary election to fill his vacancy and that of disqualified councillor Renee Ellis.

Meanwhile, in the lower house seat of Geraldton, Liberal Ian Blayney has retained the seat for another term.

He won by a slim 558 votes ahead of Labor’s Lara Dalton.
