Geraldton cyclists mix with pro riders in Tour of Margaret River event

Two teams of Geraldton women cyclists travelled down south last week to compete in the Tour of Margaret River. The tour of Margaret River was a team cycling competition run from November 3-5, which due to its unique format gave amateur cyclists the chance to compete against riders from the pro tour. In a team format, the groups raced to accumulate the best times for each specific stage, including a team time trial. The two Geraldton teams were part of more than 100 teams that made their way to Margaret River for the event. The Everlastings and Gero Seabreeze Spinners came third and fourth in the overall women’s B-division competition. While the format is designed for teams, some individuals had success at the tour, as Emma Jones came first overall in the individual road race and grand pursuit stages. In their age categories, four Geraldton locals managed to place top 10 over all as Fiona Angelatos placed third, while Sara Armitage, Rebecca Swan and Lisa Keeffe placed fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
