Geraldton detectives charge more teens over Bluff Point public toilet chainsaw attack

Another two teenagers have been charged over a violent chainsaw attack on a tourist at a toilet block in Bluff Point last week which left him bloodied and battered. Three teenagers are now facing serious charges relating to the alleged ambush on a German backpacker on Monday, August 5, who was using the toilet block on Kempton Street in Bluff Point with another traveller. Prosecutor Sen. Const. Thomas Potts previously told the court a group of eight men with face coverings approached the 24-year-old and demanded his property. A 17-year-old is alleged to have revved a battery powered chainsaw while another produced a pocket knife. One of the assailants is believed to have kicked the 24-year-old to the ground. Sen. Const. Potts told the court when the tourist fought back, the 17-year-old struck him to the head with the power tool, causing blood to rush down his face. The court was told the tourists barricaded themselves in the toilet block as they waited for police. The 24-year-old’s injury required 12 stitches. Two more teenagers, aged 15 and 16, have been charged with aggravated armed assault with intent to rob. All three accused appeared in Geraldton Children’s Court on Tuesday. The 17-year-old, who has previously denied his involvement in the assault, was refused bail and was remanded in custody. His next court date is September 24. A 16-year-old appeared from Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Centre. His bail was not considered and was remanded in custody until Tuesday. The 15-year-old was granted bail with conditions and is due to reappear on September 3.
