Geraldton drivers keep under the limit over holiday period

The majority of drivers stayed away from the booze over the festive period, with Geraldton traffic police charging just two people with drink-driving from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day.
Geraldton acting traffic Sgt. Ron Pace said 383 drivers were stopped for a random breath test, with only two drivers charged with blowing over 0.05.
He said police didn’t set up any booze bus operations but co-ordinated several RBT actions over the nine days.
However, drivers continue to flout the speed limit on country roads, with officers handing out 18 speeding tickets and issuing 16 cautions.
Two drivers were caught using their mobile phones behind the wheel.
Unlike other regional areas of WA, no one was killed in a car crash in the Mid West over the nine-day period.
But a Statewide surge of 166 road fatalities last year was the highest number of deaths recorded in the past five years.
