Geraldton hockey round wrap: Casuals, Saints and Rovers pick up wins in high-scoring round
The game of the round in the Geraldton Hockey Association took place on Saturday night between Casuals and Murchison, with the Cougars bouncing back after a disappointing loss to Saints the week before.
Casuals’ captain Lachy Camerer got his side up and running with the first goal of the game as the Cougars started their attack. Gus Osborn then jumped on the board for Casuals with a goal against the play.
Casuals’ Jarrod Jupp played a pivotal role in the middle and was one of their best on along with Camerer.
Murchison challenged the defensive unit of Casuals but were unable to walk away with a goal. Murchison’s Ryan Dix was one of his side’s best throughout the night.
A high-scoring second half by Casuals saw the Cougars run away with the game as Clint Yeates claimed two while Camerer found the back of the net once more along with Causals forward Jadyn Fitzsimmons. The final score was 6-0 to Casuals.
Saints took on Australs Yacht Club on Friday night in what was a close battle. Saints managed to get on the board through Matt O’Neil and Ben McGowan while the defensive unit of Saints kept Australs Yacht Club at bay, with the Saints winning 2-0.
On Wednesday night is was a high-scoring affair between Rovers and Australs Yacht Club with both teams landing blow after blow as the score board ticked over.
Tyler Allen scored two for Rovers while teammates Paul Valenti, Jordan Cox and James Van Niftrik scored one each. For Australs Yacht Club Edwin McQuade found the back of the net twice with Sunni Hunt claiming one goal for the night. Rovers ran out 5-3 winners.
