Geraldton hosts the Wintersun Wars 3: Mano E Mano boxing event over the weekend

Queens Park Theatre was host to a Las Vegas-style night of boxing with the Wintersun Wars 3: Mano E Mano event on Saturday. Geraldton local Jake Peacock, the mastermind behind the event, put on a show that featured 25 bouts, with 16 local boxers stepping into the ring, some for the first time. Leighton Reid, fighting at 71kg, took on a much more experienced opponent in Aidan Fitzmaurice, and while he did not take the win, he wowed the crowd with his aggressive style and energy in the ring. The highlight of the night was difficult to pick, but the war between Skybox’s Keeley Hunt-Svenson and Hurtslea’s Lexie Hallett was difficult to top. The two fighters traded blows for three solid rounds, and while Lexie came away with the win, both ladies left nothing in the tank. Despite not coming away with the victory, Hunt-Svenson was delighted with the fight and was already looking forward to what was ahead in her own boxing journey. “I am feeling good, still on a high from the hype of last night. I am really keen to see what’s next,” she said. The night culminated with the double-header main event, with Jack Clifford taking a convincing victory over Aarron Mason from Seconds Out Gym in Perth. Eric ‘EJ’ Kyanga took on the current Australian 80kg champ over three rounds and put in a superb performance, despite not coming away with the belt.
