Two Geraldton surfers finished on the podium last Sunday as the Surfing WA Surfer Groms junior competition ran at Trigg Beach.

Cruz MacDonald won the under-12 boys’ division and Edel Rodden finished second in the under-14s, behind surfing royalty in Margaret River’s Olive Hardy, the younger sister of teenage Margaret River Pro wild card entry Willow Hardy.

Cruz said the win in windy conditions was a career highlight.

“This is probably my biggest win I’ve had so far,” he said.

“Thanks to my mum for driving me all the way from Geraldton and all the sponsors and surfers who made it such a memorable event.” Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said the event had gone well.

“The levels of froth, fun, encouragement and excitement on display were through the roof this weekend,” he said.
