Christopher Andrew Anderson: Geraldton man accused of using payphone to harass women

A Geraldton man accused of using public payphones to sexually harass women across the country for almost 10 years has been charged and remains behind bars. Police arrested Christopher Andrew Anderson at his Deepdale home on Wednesday, with the man subsequently charged with 17 counts of using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend. The charges relate to alleged incidents which occurred as far back as 2013. Geraldton police officer-in-charge Sen Sgt Chris Martin said Mr Anderson had allegedly used Geraldton payphones to harass 15 women aged between 22 and 50 from across WA and Melbourne. Police will allege the 58-year-old also performed sex acts in public while he made some of the calls. Upon a search of his home, police allegedly seized cannabis and child exploitation material. Sen Sgt Martin described the footage and photos as “some of the most explicit material you could find”. He said the arrest of the alleged sex offender was because of “excellent police work”. “We have removed this potentially dangerous offender from the streets and it is another example of how Geraldton police won’t stop,” he said. “The investigation was a combination of hard work and hours put in by one officer in particular. This officer had been given resources from the Geraldton and metro regions and his professionalism was outstanding.” Mr Anderson was not required to plead to the charges when he appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday and he did not apply for bail. He was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on June 27.
