City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn is to stand trial for common assault next year.

Owing to the number of witnesses likely to be called, the trial was listed for four days on June 8 and his bail was extended.

Mr Van Styn allegedly assaulted a patron at the Kalbarri Hotel on April 6.

He has said he will ‘vigorously contest’ the charge.

He was re-elected as the City’s mayor for a second term last month.
