Geraldton Netball round 1 wrap: Aztecs’ big win in grand final rematch against Pumas

The 2022 netball season began on Tuesday night with the Aztecs defeating Pumas 50-28 in game one.

The match was a replay of the 2021 grand final, in which Aztecs beat Pumas by two points.

They picked up where they left off, leading by three points at the end of the first quarter.

Any hopes for a comeback were quashed in the second quarter as the Aztecs piled on 18 points to put the game out of reach of the Pumas.

The Aztecs would go on to win by 22 points, opening their 2022 season with a victory.

In the second game of the night, Kazuals beat Lightning by 22 points, 56-34.

Kazuals led 13-6 at the end of the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the match.

They extended their lead in the second and third quarters, giving them a comfortable win in the opening round.

Falcons had the bye for round one.

In round two, Kazuals will face Aztecs at 6pm while Falcons come up against Pumas at 7.30pm.

Lightning have a bye for the round.
