The pain started with a work injury ... if, and when it will end, Angus Callaghan has no idea. For the past five years, Mr Callaghan, 23, has suffered from fibromyalgia, a muscle ligament and tendon syndrome which has an unknown cause and no cure. What the Rangeway-based former apprentice electrician knows is the pain and fatigue the debilitating illness delivers. He would love nothing better than to be able to jump aboard a bike and ride. There are three reasons for the ride — socially, to have fun, and seriously, to raise awareness of fibromyalgia and funds for treatment for Angus. “A door fell on him when he was working as an apprentice, but he liked his boss so much he didn’t say anything,” Peter said. “At the time, I was too proud; didn’t want time off work,” Angus said. Five years ago the condition hit him. In more recent times, he has struggled with depression. “His condition may last years, it may last a lifetime,” Ride4Life Geraldton co-ordinator Sandra McGillivray said. “Fibromyalgia has a big impact on many people. Our ride will raise funds for Angus and we are looking for donated goods we can raffle or use as prizes in the Poker Run.”
