Anytime Fitness Geraldton: Boy allegedly smashes girl’s windscreen with dumbbell after romantic advances

A teenage boy is accused of stealing a gym weight and ploughing it through his alleged crush’s vehicle twice after she rejected his advances at a gym on Monday. Geraldton Police acting officer in charge Sgt Nathan Johansen alleged on Monday about 8.30pm, a 17-year-old girl was at Anytime Fitness on North West Coastal Highway when a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, approached her and made advances. Sgt Johansen alleged the girl had been harassed by the accused teen over a three-month period and they were known to each other through sport. “He’s wanting to be in a relationship with her and she didn’t want anything to do with it,” he said. Sgt Johansen alleged after the 17-year-old girl rejected the boy’s advances, he stole a 5kg dumbbell and threw it through her vehicle’s windscreen before throwing the weight through the side window, causing damage to the handbrake. The 16-year-old was charged with threats to cause detriment to another person and criminal damage. He was placed on protective bail and will reappear in Geraldton Magistrates Court on January 10. Sgt Johansen encouraged people to reach out to police if they found themselves subject to unwanted advances. He said further charges of unlawful entry and stealing at the gym were pending.
