Geraldton Police were confronted by up to a dozen people fighting in a Utakarra park, throwing bottles at each other, in what was a busy weekend full of disturbances. Police said the weekend involved 49 reports of disturbances throughout Geraldton, a bigger-than-usual number, relating to fighting in the street and excessive alcohol consumption. One of those incidents was about 3.10pm on Saturday, when police became aware of a big group throwing bottles at each other at Sheoak Park near Callistemon Court in Utakarra. Geraldton Police officer-in-charge Sen Sgt Chris Martin said police arrived at the park about 3.30pm and observed 10-12 people involved in a brawl. “Some of which were brandishing glass bottles in their hand. A number of the persons were actively fighting each other,” he said. “Police gained control of the situation, obtained details of those main parties involved, seized the tyre iron and preferred appropriate charges.” Three females were charged including a 16-year-old girl, who was issued a juvenile caution for possession of a weapon intended to cause fear. Two women were summonsed to Geraldton Magistrate Court — a 32-year-old woman charged with disorderly conduct and a 33-year-old woman charged with disorderly conduct and possession of a weapon.
