Geraldton police continue investigation into Rangeway sexual assault

Geraldton police have today set up a mobile facility at the site where a teenager was sexually assaulted last month in the hope more Rangeway residents may come forward. Investigating officer Acting Det. Sgt Tom Grieve said police were still conducting “lines of inquiry” but were yet to make an arrest. “We’ll be setting up the facility in Rangeway with Perth detectives from the Sex Assault Squad,” he said. “We have found in the past some are more comfortable speaking with police face to face. So we’re hoping members of the community might prefer to speak to us directly.” The Mobile Police Facility will be situated on Blencowe Road near Utakarra Road between 10am and 2pm today. The investigation continues into a predator, described as dark-skinned and wearing an Adidas shirt, who dragged a 15-year-old girl in bushland around 2am on Saturday September 5. Acting Sgt Grieve thanked to public for excellent response in providing information to police but said the “missing piece of the puzzle” might still be out there. He said police were still pursuing forensic opportunities and had reviewed all the CCTV footage provided by the public. “All evidence suggests the suspect was on foot,” he said. “What is clear is there is numerous vehicles travelling through the area and we would like those people to come forward.” He said CCTV showed at least 10 vehicles travelling along Blencowe Road and Utakarra Road between 1.45am and 2am when the attack occurred.
