Police are appealing for the public’s help to catch the culprit who tried to snatch a woman’s bag as he rode a bike along Chapman Road last week.

Geraldton officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said the woman was outside a kebab shop waiting to collect food at 9pm last Friday when the person cycled past her and tried to grab her bag.

The woman didn’t let go and the offender, on a silver bike, gave up and rode on to Marine Terrace.

“That kind of behaviour is alarming given there’s an element of violence to it,” Sen. Sgt Martin said. “(Bag snatching) is not a common issue here ... we want to lock this person up, put them behind bars, and keep the community as safe as possible.”

The offender is described as a dark-skinned male, wearing a white hoodie with a light blue cap.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
