Readers, writers and creators are set for a novel-ty few days of festivities now the dates have been released for this year’s Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival.

Award-wining authors and local talent will be attending this year’s program, set to run through four days from Thursday, September 29 until October 2.

Outstanding authors include Geraldton-born author Holden Sheppard, whose debut novel Invisible Boys won several awards including the WA Premier’s Prize for an Emerging Writer in 2019. His second novel, The Brink, was published this month. Sheppard said he’d spent nine years writing his follow-up novel.

Sheppard will be signing his books and welcoming conversation with fans and friends. Other guest authors include Amanda Bridgeman, Emily Brugman, Melody Dia, Brooke Dunnell and Dr Kate Forsyth.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said he was thrilled to see the long-running staple on the Geraldton events calendar back for another year.

“Big Sky is a must-see for literature lovers everywhere and I applaud everyone involved for organising another ripper year,” he said.

He said the writers’ festival continued brought exceptional experiences to local venues throughout the Mid West.

“The full program and tickets will be released very soon, so keep an eye on the library’s social media,” he said.

Funding for the event has been provided by MPs Lara Dalton, Sandra Carr and Darren West as well as the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, with support from the Geraldton Universities Centre, local businesses and organisations.
