Geraldton RSL appoints Glenn Law as president after Barry Stinson serves maximum term

The Geraldton RSL has appointed a new president, elevating Glenn Law to the position after 40 years of involvement with the organisation across the State. Mr Law was appointed to the role on Sunday, August 27, in a show of hands from the committee. They backed the local to succeed Barry Stinson after extensive involvement with the RSL. Mr Stinson served as president for four years, in two terms — the longest a president is able to hold the role. Joining the Royal Australian Navy in Moora in 1966, Mr Law was on board the HMAS Leeuwin, but quickly moved in to the Submarine Corp, working on HMAS Ovens — the vessel on display at the Fremantle Maritime Museum. “I’ve thought about the position for quite some time, and had some ambition to step in to the chair,” he said. Occupying various roles around the RSL during his membership, Mr Law has acted as welfare officer and treasurer before stepping in to the big seat. Michael Reymond has stepped into the role of secretary, while new addition Paul Shearer joins the organisation as a committee member. Mr Reymond has been a member of the RSL for 18 months, saying his motivation for stepping into the role is “ just about being able to help your community”. Previously involved in the air force, but an engineer by trade, Mr Reymond brings his experience as a City of Greater Geraldton councillor to the table, keeping community leadership at his fore. Mr Shearer was involved with the Army cadets, before moving in to the commandos and joined the RSL 18 months ago, stepping in to his role as a committee member while working full-time at the Mid West Port Authority. Mr Law thanked his predecessor for his work in leading the RSL for the past four years, supporting veterans and widows through legacy programs and taking care of the administration. “He’s done an incredible job. He’s had just about every role you can have in the RSL so he’s left some big boots to fill,” Mr Law said.
