Geraldton softball round 8: Rams hand the league leaders Suiside their second loss while Blaze grab first win

The Rams have stunned league leaders Suiside, handing them their second loss of the season in the 6-2 clash on Saturday. Suiside coach Dylan Percy said the windy conditions proved to be a challenge. “It took a bit for the Bulldog lads to adjust their hitting,” he said. Suiside rallied back in their second game, claiming a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Blaze. Pitcher Cooper Jefferies impressed with 10 strikeouts and contributed with a notable performance at the plate. Jefferies also batted in the decisive run, after Liam Reynolds hit a double to get on base, securing a vital win. Batavia Blaze got their first win of the season in a narrow 7-6 victory over Martians, as Joshua and Sean Thompson showed great leadership to help the fledgling side to their first victory celebration of the season. The Suiside women managed a one-run victory over the Pi’s Panthers on Wednesday despite the windy conditions. The division one victors displayed exceptional defensive plays from second baseman Charli Bidwell and outfielder Mya Mead. The team showcased determination and teamwork to secure the win. Pi’s played some great softball with impressive running from Sally Denton and Nitarsha Finch, but defensive errors cost them valuable runs. In other women’s division one games, Martians faced a tough challenge against Rams, resulting in a 14-3 defeat, invoking the mercy rule after five innings. Rams also won their matchup against Pi’s Panthers, winning a tightly contested game 13-8. Coach Dion Harrison said he was pleased with the Rams as they extended their undefeated streak to nine games. “At the moment, every single player is buying into what we want to do, and I can’t ask for much more,” he said. In division two for men’s, Martians Black dominated, securing a convincing 22-1 victory against Gunduwa, with standout performances from Jack Nestoridis, Jett Bradley and Hunter Jupp. Suiside continued their great form on Friday night with a comprehensive 18-1 victory over Marlins. Blaze also had a good win, taking down Rams 17-1, as Eli Etherton put in another solid performance for the victors. Martians Black took out the derby with a 19-1 triumph over Martians Red, Andrew Middler’s relief pitching and Gordon Brott’s stellar performance contributing to the victory. In women’s division two, Suiside secured a hard-fought victory against PI’s with a score of 11-10 as pitchers Marnie Terhoeve and Sue Mundy, along with catcher Alice Lind, played crucial roles. The Midwest Marlins picked up a easy 23-4 win over the Martians, as the victors displayed excellent batting, accumulating 18 safe hits, while Martians struggled. Women’s division three saw Blaze win over Martians 17-5 and Gunduwa had an impressive win over Rams, 16-3.
