Geraldton swimming star Molly Evans to represent WA at 2025 School Sport Australia Swimming Championships
Geraldton swimming superstar Molly Evans will be donning the black and gold as she represents the Mid West and WA in Queensland at the 2025 School Sport Australia Swimming Championships in July.
Molly is the only Mid West local to be selected for the championships in what will be her first experience on tour.
She said she was looking forward to the opportunity and pride of representing regional athletes on the big stage.
“I am proud to have this chance to represent WA,” Molly said.
“I am also happy to be able to represent other swimmers who live in regional areas.”
The 13-year-old will be competing in her age group in the 50-metre, 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke events in what will be her first taste of representative sport.
Molly’s journey started almost four years ago when a friend invited her to the pool to try out for her local swimming club.
With the backing of her friend’s dad who was part of the committee, Molly decided to have a crack and hasn’t looked back since.
Molly said swimming had brought her a lot and was an escape.
“I love swimming because I have made lots of new friends,” she said.
“For me, the pool is a place where nothing else matters. Following the black line always puts me in a good mood.”
For Molly’s family, it is a proud moment for all involved as Molly’s hard work is starting to pay off in front of their eyes. Molly’s mum Anna said it had involved a lot of hard work from her daughter.
“We are very proud of her,” she said.
“It’s been a big commitment that she has made with her training for swimming, both in the pool and out of the pool.
“So I think for someone of her age, it shows a lot of dedication.
“So her dad and I are really proud of her.”
Molly is balancing Year 8 studies as well as up to eight hours a week in the pool, with her mother saying she has adapted and taken on each challenge along the way.
“Time management is definitely something she has learnt through this process,” she said.
“Molly commits about eight hours a week to training in the pool and a couple of hours of dry land training as well.
“So balancing that with with school work and still being a kid is something that she’s done really well.”
Molly’s mum and her grandma will follow her to Brisbane to support her as she begins her representative career in a sport she loves.
The 2025 School Sport Australia Swimming Championships will be held in Brisbane from July 26 to 31.
