Geraldton teen Glen Brett Calyun admits to $1500 adult store theft

A Geraldton teen has admitted to stealing $1500 from a local adult shop as part of a spate of business break-ins across the CBD. Glen Brett Calyun, 18, on Thursday appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to 11 charges, including four counts each of burglary and stealing from several businesses. He also entered guilty pleas to one count of possessing a prohibited drug and attempting to break in to EB Games and Liquid Mojo. The court was told Calyun stole various amounts of cash between $50 and $1500 from Case Dolce, Snazzy Cafe and Kebabs and The Hamper Co. on the night of April 13. Just two weeks later, he broke into the Nice and Norty adult shop and stole $1500. Lawyer Georgia Keysers said Calyun had moved to Geraldton to get a fresh start and had predominantly stayed out of trouble since 2019. She said he was hopeful of gaining employment and helping to care for his sick father. Calyun spent two weeks at Greenough Regional Prison, but was last week released on bail to await his sentencing on June 20. Magistrate Angus Hockton said Calyun could almost certainly expect to find himself back behind bars if he did not comply with the conditions of his bail. Mr Hockton described the offending as “very serious” and told Calyun his offending put locals at risk of significant harm. “Business owners expect to be protected. They don’t need to come in to work to find someone has been helping themselves to their hard labour just because you need a little bit of money,” he said.
