Geraldton teen Phillip James Robinson pleads guilty to charges related to the assault of ex-partner

A Geraldton teen who hit a woman with a 1m-long stick in a prolonged attack has pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful assault and criminal damage. Phillip James Robinson reappeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on Monday over the September 4 incident. The court was told Robinson and his ex-partner were driving in Wandina when the 19-year-old pulled over and demanded that she get out. Prosecutor Acting Sgt Dean Solman said when she refused, he grabbed her throat and began to punch and yell at her. When she tried to leave, Robinson “dragged” her back and smashed a bottle. “The victim kicked him away and ran down the street,” Acting Sgt Solman said. “The accused followed her and picked up a large stick measuring 1m long and 10cm thick and began hitting her in the back of the leg.” He later smashed her phone before she fled the scene to a nearby family members house. Magistrate Chris Miocevich ordered a pre-sentence assessment and remanded Robinson until July 8.
