Geraldton to gather at Birdwood House on Remembrance Day to honour those who served and continue to serve

Geraldton will pause to offer its thanks this Remembrance Day on Tuesday, November 11 — the date marking the end of World War I in 1918 and a time when Australians honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed in wars and conflicts. The annual Remembrance Day service will take place at Birdwood House on Tuesday shortly after 10.30am. The flag will be lowered to half-mast as veterans form up in the RSL car park before marching to the Birdwood House portico. The traditional Order of Service will follow, including the arrival of the catafalque party, recital of In Flanders Field, the Remembrance Day Address, the Ode of Remembrance, the bugle call of The Last Post and a minute’s silence at 11am. A flyover by the Midwest Aero Club, led by Paul “Butch” Pettit, will take place shortly after the silence. City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune is expected to attend, along with RSL representatives and other dignitaries. All are welcome to join the Geraldton RSL at Birdwood House to pay tribute to those who served and those who continue to serve. This year marks 80 years since the end of World War II.
