Geraldton Tree Canopy advocates launch Tree Appreciation Art Exhibition at Greenough Museum and Gardens

An art exhibition focused on the importance of greenery is on display at the Greenough Museum after a successful opening night with more than 40 people in attendance last weekend. The Tree Appreciation Art Exhibition opening night was celebrated on Saturday, October 21, showcasing more than 60 works from 30 local artists. The subject is appreciation of trees and the exhibition was organised by newly formed Geraldton Tree Canopy Advocates, a group which encourages planting of more verge trees and promotes the environmental benefits of trees. Geraldton Tree Canopy Advocates group member Shirley Staveley instigated and organised the exhibition. She said with increasingly hot weather, the importance of tree canopy to the City of Greater Geraldton could not be overemphasised. “One of the aims of the exhibition is to focus on the beauty, as well as necessity of trees in our environment and to appreciate all that trees do for us,” she said. “The local art community has run with the concept and produced some stunning works. Geraldton has a large amount of very talented artists and they all came together.” Environmentalist Darryl Ingvarson attended and gave a speech on the importance of trees in the environment and how we require them to breath. The exhibition will run until November 18 and is open Tuesday-Sunday until 3pm at the Greenough Museum and Gardens.
