Ladies Day wouldn’t be the same without the line-up of unique outfits flaunted on the catwalk for the Fashions on the Field competition. Four prize categories were up for grabs at Geraldton Turf Club on Sunday, with Bernadette May and Elizabeth Winlow judging based on outfit appropriateness, originality, attention to detail, adaption of current trends, confidence on stage and grooming. Twenty-six women got on stage to flaunt their 2022 Ladies Day colours, ranging from the in-fashion soft lilac, to baby blue and canary yellow. The winner of Fashions on the Field 2022 was Jessica Kirkland wearing an orange dress and purple accessories. Ms Kirkland received a $2000 Mitchell and Brown Retravision voucher, Chally Bridge Farms flowers and a bottle of bubbly. First runner-up was Philippa Kupsch, who wore a pink and cream coloured dress and tall feather fascinator. She won a $500 voucher, flowers and bubbly. Second runner-up was Ruth Louise, who donned a canary yellow fascinator and clutch with a white dress with black patterns. She took home a $250 voucher, flowers and bubbly. The final winner was Ruth Kaguramamba who wore a wide-rimmed violet fascinator with a lilac-rose dress with puffed arms. The four winners each received a sash presented by Geraldton Turf Club chairman Brian O’Dwyer to wear proudly for the remaining meetings. The turf club attracted a big crowd for one of its biggest social events on the racing calendar, with Chix Chatter storming home in a thrilling finish to win the Ladies Day Sprint.
