The Geraldton Turf Club was looking bright and colourful on the weekend as it successfully hosted the first calendar event on Sunday — Ladies Day. The 39C temperature didn’t stop women from getting dressed up and making their way to the races. The event has only been running for a few years but has quickly grown to become one of the turf club’s most popular days. The highlight came after the second and third races, with Fashions on the Field and winner Jaymee Pattrick said she had been preparing her dress since April. “It’s my third time competing, first win and I’m so excited . . . (I) have been preparing since probably the last time I competed,” she said. “There was definitely some great competition, everyone just looks beautiful, but it was good. A lot of fun.” Race six, the Ladies Day Sprint was won by Albert, ridden by Troy Turner.
