Geraldton Water Polo Association round 11: Demons demolish A-grade opponents, as the action returns for 2026

Demons continued their winning ways after a brief Christmas hiatus, setting the tone early with dominant wins to start the 2026 leg of the season. Serpents took on Demons in the midday sun in women’s A-grade, with the in-form Demons proving too strong in a 13–3 result. Olivia Higgs and Abbie McDonald were both in fine touch with three goals apiece, while the standout was Billie Marshall. The young gun was electric, scoring four superb goals and repeatedly shutting down Serpents attacks. Serpents never dropped their heads and worked hard to the final siren, with Rachel Trusso shining again in a tough match. Men’s A-grade saw Rats and Demons go head-to-head later on Saturday, with Demons asserting control early to run out 12–5 winners. Joel Cross, Tom Manuel and Zacc Cross did the damage with two goals each and applying constant pressure. Darcy Wiffen battled hard for Rats, finishing with two goals and plenty of defensive work, but Demons’ depth and pace proved too much. Friday afternoon featured men’s B-grade, with ladder leaders B52’s taking on Demons. Demons were competitive early, but B52’s led from the outset and never eased up in a 14–4 win. Goals came from Leo Prout and Callum Sojan, who again led by example. Relics and Rats followed, with Relics claiming a 10–6 win. Ryan Hetherington and Adam Thompson combined for seven goals in a dominant showing, while Bodhi Smith was busy for Rats with four goals. In women’s B-grade on Saturday, Demons Black and B52’s produced an entertaining contest, with Demons taking a 9–5 win in a strong attacking display. Maddy Marshall was outstanding, scoring five goals and backing it up with a solid defensive effort, while Maggie Speirs chipped in with three goals. Later in the day, Demons Yellow faced Rats, with Rats producing a confident 11–4 win. Quinn McVee was dominant in attack with four goals, while Ruby Barnes worked hard for Demons with two goals. Men’s C-grade saw Demons and Serpents record a spirited 7–7 draw. Scotty Dewar was outstanding for Serpents, finding the back of the net five times in a contest that kept supporters engaged throughout. Women’s C-grade wrapped up a busy Saturday as B52’s took on a depleted Rats. Despite being short on numbers, Rats were defiant winners 9-4 with four goals from Maddison Quayle. Serpents Blue then faced Demons Yellow, with Demons proving too strong in a 12–4 result. Esmae Oswald and Darcy Knight both impressed for the winners. The final match had Serpents Green against Demons Black, with Serpents finishing strongly to claim an 8–4 win, Bianca Brennan leading with four goals.
